Why Goa

Goa’s geographical location is between Arabian sea on West and Western Ghats on its East. Goa is the home to semi-evergreen forests, mangrove forests, creeks, beaches, wetlands, rivers etc and rich Biodiversity and also global tourism destination.

Goa has scenic natural beauty, attractive beaches, and distinctive architecture, feasts and festivals of a unique culture having geographical area of approximately 3,702 sq km. This 25th state of India is distributed among its two districts and 11 talukas (local sub districts). Goa has emerged as the most progressive State in the country and is ranked No.1 by the Eleventh Finance Commission as the Best Placed State in the Country in terms of infrastructure facilities. The National Population Commission has ranked Goa as the First State amongst all States/Union Teritorries in terms of 12 indicators (composite index) on quality of life. CRISIL has declared Goa as the second fastest growing State in the country. The literacy rate is 80 per cent. Goa is a multi-lingual state but in major towns, English is widely used in writing and conversation.

India is signatory to the resolution of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development which adopts 17 sustainable development goals. In line with this, the state governments have also adopted this SDGs. Goa moved from the 7th position in the SDG India index for 2019 to third place in the third edition of the Niti Ayog’s Sustainable Development Goals India index for 2020-21. Goa aims to be the top state in the next edition of the SDG India index.
